Gweru City Council has mooted establishing a water bottling company as
part of the local authority’s income generating capital projects, a
senior council official has said.
Acting finance director Owen Masimba told The Gweru Times in an
interview that the bottled water project will be a joint venture
between council and a private partner.
“We have budgeted $430 000 for a water bottling venture with a private
company,” Masimba said.
Masimba added “Currently we have since advertised for expression of interest for the project as we seek to a potential partner in the venture.”
Over the years the cash strapped local authority has been failing to
finance its projects as a result of financial constraints.
Council has also been failing to pay salaries on time owing to revenue problems.
Reports indicate that council collects $1,2 million every month
against a wage bill of $1,3 million.
Masimba said other money spinning projects council has lined up
include quarry mining, truck-inn, accommodation facilities and
shopping mall for Midlands State University students among other
