A teenage student at Zimbabwe School of Mines last week appeared in
court for allegedly murdering his cousin with a knife. Takudzwa Chindi
(19) of Sebanga Park suburb in Shurugwi appeared before Shurugwi
Magistrate Sithabile Zungula facing one count of murder.
It is allegedly that Chindi fatally stabbed Broklen Gumbo (16) in yet
to be established misunderstanding.
Zungula remanded Chindi in custody and advised him to apply for bail
at The High Court.
The court heard that on April 6 at around 1530 hours, the accused took
a knife and entered the deceased’s bedroom where he allegedly stabbed
him once on the neck.
Chindi, the court heard was seen by his mother Angela and his younger
brother, Tapiwa with a blood stains and when questioned he threatened
the two with murder before fleeing from the scene.
Angela reported the matter to the police and Gumbo’s body was ferried
to Bulawayo for postmortem.
The court further heard that after his arrest Chindi attempted to
escape from police cells but was re-arrested a few hours later while
attempting to flee to South Africa where his father is based.
